Origin Story
Kohtalo Construction was born out of relationships formed during a self-build in North Devon, back in 2018. Rooted in friendship and a true love of creating interesting and beautiful spaces, it continues to expand today - ever-evolving, with people and the ways in which we live at it’s core.
When founders Ed and Emily embarked on an ambitious build in the North Devon countryside in 2018, budget constraints meant that they planned to do the majority of the works themselves. Despite Ed’s years of experience in the construction industry, there’s nothing quite like building your own home to test your limits.
Nevertheless, when tools were downed and the house complete, the couple found themselves hunting for the next site. It sparked in them a passion for interesting buildings – architecture, interiors, and construction - that neither of them has shaken since. The project forged their careers in construction and as micro-developers.
Together, and now with a talented and hardworking team of tradesmen now behind them, they’ve hit their stride as reliable and knowledgeable industry experts. Aside from general and commercial builds and renovations, they’ve claimed their specialty in bespoke luxury cabins, completing a batch of five modular homes for industry leaders Rest & Wild in 2024. They’re always conscious that you are only ever as good as your last piece of work, meaning the utmost care goes into each project, however big or small.
Kohtalo Construction continues to grow, learn, and hone their skills and expertise within the building trade and expand the services they offer. They’re always eager to hear about new projects, so please get in touch to discuss how they might be able to help with yours.
“There’s something incredibly gratifying about bringing to life a building that will serve an important purpose for years to come. Be it an extension for a growing family, a workspace for expanding business or a modular cabin that will house happy holiday memories for years to come, you’re part of building something that has such longevity and personal connection. There’s something very fulfilling about that. With all our builds, we take this responsibilty very seriously and feel passionately that there can be beauty and clever design in even the most simple parts of construction.”
